The invention relates to substituted 1-(3-iodo-2-propynyloxy)-2- propanols or 1-(3-iodo-2-propynyloxy)-3-propanols of the general formula (I) <IMAGE> in which R<1> and R<2> are hydrogen or one of the two radicals R<1> and R<2> represents hydrogen, the other represents a linear unsubstituted or substituted alkyl radical having 1-12 C atoms, where the substituents are selected from halogens, N-containing 5- or 6-membered rings or alkoxy groups having 1-4 C atoms in the alkoxy radical, represents a branched alkyl radical having 3-8 C atoms, represents a cyclic alkyl radical having 5 or 6 C atoms, represents an alkenyl radical having 3-11 C atoms, represents iodopropynyl or represents an unsubstituted or optionally polysubstituted phenyl radical, where the substituents are selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxy, halogen, nitro and/or acyl. The invention additionally relates to a process for the preparation of the compounds of the general formula (I) and their use as antimicrobial substances.
