For setting dowel holes in pieces of wood to be joined to one another by means of a drilling template on a hand-held drill, the positioning of the lateral spacing of the dowel holes in the two pieces of wood from the same reference surface presents difficulties: when drilling the second dowel hole, the drilling template must namely be turned through 180 DEG with respect to the reference surface for the lateral spacing; therefore, the usual side stops, firmly connected to drilling templates, cannot be used. Therefore, in the case of the invention the side stop (22) can be removed from the drilling template (2) and connected to it so as to protrude to the left or right. For this purpose, between drilling template (2) and side stop (22) there are provided connecting means (204; 2210) which are arranged symmetrically with respect to a plane of symmetry (M) running through the drill axis (B). <IMAGE>
