Device for loosening and turning wheel nuts (5) on vehicle wheels which are equipped with rims (55) through which wheel holding bolts (6) engage, onto which the wheel nuts (5) can be screwed. The device includes a socket wrench nut (3) which fits the wheel nuts (5) and can rotate by means of a crank (9) which acts on the plug-on shaft (7) of the socket wrench (3). Between the plug-on shaft (7) and the crank (9), a gear reducer unit (17, 19) is provided which transmits in a geared-down form to the plug-on shaft (7) by means of rotational movements of a crankshaft which is rotated by the crank (9). The housing (21) of the gear system (17, 19) is secured on the wheel during the rotation of the crank (9) against being driven along, by being clamped tight with the aid of resilient clamping struts which clamp on the wheel rim in the region of the field of the nuts. <IMAGE>
