摘要 In a circular toroidal chamber of rectangular cross-section, four working elements, which act as pistons and have the geometrical configuration of a sector of a circular annulus, form four working or combustion spaces. The pistons are connected rigidly in pairs to the rings (7, 8), the angular spacing of the two pistons of one ring being 180 DEG . The special configuration of the pistons gives rise alternately during their pairwise interaction to virtually spherical combustion spaces, which guarantee good combustion of the mixture. The rings (7, 8) which carry the pistons are supported in a manner which allows rotation in opposite directions and are each rotationally connected to one of the crank pin rings (12, 13). The opposite oscillatory rotary motions of the two pairs of pistons are transmitted with the aid of the connecting rods (14, 15) to two single-web crankshafts (16, 17), each of which transmits its torque by way of a gearwheel to an output shaft (20), giving rise to a usable continuous rotation. The gear mechanism at the same time ensures that the pairs of pistons reach one of their two dead centre positions simultaneously, this being of importance for the operation of the engine. The exhaust and refill cycle is accomplished by means of a control ring (23) which is slidingly supported in the housing and rotates at half the speed of the engine. It is driven by one of the two crankshafts, the web of which is designed as a gearwheel.
