The apparatus is provided with a frame portion (4) on which at least one head support (13) is mounted. The head support accommodates a magnetic head (6) and a positioning device (23) with a deflection element (33; 57; 63; 73) which comprises fixing portions (34, 32; 58, 60; 64, 65; 74, 75) situated adjacent two opposite edges of the deflection element, and of which element a first fixing portion (34; 58; 64; 74) is rigidly connected to the magnetic head and a second fixing portion (32; 60; 65; 75) is rigidly connected to the head support. By means of the deflection element the magnetic head is pivotable relative to the head support in order to adjust the azimuth-angle position of the magnetic head.
