PURPOSE:To improve the effective area of a picture element electrode within the same display area and to increase the size of a liquid crystal panel, by using plural picture element electrodes formed at the inside of a substrate to form terminals on the other side surface via through-holes. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal 5 is enclosed between a pair of substrates 1 and 3 to form a liquid crystal cell. Plural picture element electrodes 4 are formed in a matrix shape on the inner side of a lower substrate 3, and at the same time terminals 13 are formed on the other side surface and opposite to the electrodes 4 via through-holes 12 pierced through the substrate 3. In such constitution, the conventional space needed for a lead wire can be eliminated. Thus it is possible to increase the effective area of the picture element electrode or the number of picture element electrodes in terms of comparison with the same area. Furthermore, a larger panel size is obtained with higher density of picture element electrode compared with a conventional liquid crystal cell. |
