PURPOSE:To simplify and make small the operating mechanism of a clogging prevention device and thereby to reduce the cost thereof, by utilizing the working air pressure of an ink jet to move a cap for preventing clogging. CONSTITUTION:In the non-recording time (in the state in which a power source is OFF), the nozzle face of an ink jet head 6 is sealed up by a cap 5. Simultaneously when an air stream begins to jet from nozzles with the power source made, an air pressure from the same air pressure from the same air source is applied to a bellows 14 through an air supply pipe 15 to push back the main body 4 of a humidifier. Thereby a spring 16 is pulled to separate the nozzle face the cap 5, and thus the device is put in the state in which recording can be conducted. When the power source is turned off, the air pressure falls down to the atmospheric pressure, the cap 5 is pushed forward by the spring 16, and the nozzle face is sealed up by the cap 5. Since the bellows 14 serves as an air damper, the cap 5 moves backward and forward at low speed when the power source is turned ON and OFF. In an ink jet head which necessitates an air pressure of about 0.01kg/cm<2>, the cross-sectional area of the bellows 14 of 3-5cm<2> is large enough for obtaining a sufficient power, and thus the mechanism of the device is made compact. |
