The axis of symmetry (2) of the rotationally symmetrical outer jacket (1) of the acetabulum includes an angle of about 25 DEG with the generating rotational axis or axis of symmetry (7) of the acetabulum shell (5), the rotational axis (7) being turned away from the flattened edge of the acetabulum shell (5) - as viewed in cross-section through a mid-plane of the flattening. The novel design prevents luxations of the femoral head prosthesis out of the acetabulum shell (5), especially on combined adduction/flexion movements, or at least makes these very difficult. These luxations are the cause of increased wear on the articular head (13). <IMAGE>
