PURPOSE:To prevent invasion of water into the clutch by a method wherein an U-shaped ring is forced into the ring-shaped protuberance of a pinion so as to be opened at the lower side thereof while a ring-shaped protruding part is provided on a clutch outer, in the starter motor for marine use. CONSTITUTION:When a starter switch is put ON, an armature shaft 7 is rotated, the clutch outer 3, the pinion 6 and the like are elevated by helical splines 9, 10 until they abut against a stop ring 12 and are meshed with a ring gear to start the engine while they are returned by a return spring 13 after the engine is started. Here, the U-shaped ring 15 is forced into the protuberance 14 of the pinion 6 so as to be opened downwardly, on the other hand, a half split washer 18, a plate 16 and a seal washer 17 are incorporated into the clutch outer 3 and a cover 2 is rolled to form the clutch. At this time, the ring-shaped protruding part 16a of the plate 16 is inserted into the U-shaped opening of the ring 15 and the maze is formed. Thus, invasion of sea water from upper and side directions into the clutch may be prevented. |
