PURPOSE:To obtain sand and soil for refilling from excavated soil and sand by a method in which a vacuum negative pressure is applied to a filter chamber, a collecting chamber, and a vacuum hose by the action of a blower, and soil and sand are mixed with a soil improving agent, e.g., slaked lime, etc. CONSTITUTION:A vacuum negative pressure is applied to a filter chamber 6, a collecting chamber 5, and a vacuum hose 12 by the action of a blower 3. When a nozzle 12a is positioned in excavated soil and sand, the soil and sand are sucked into the collecting chamber 5 through the hose 12, and collided on an impinging plate 14, where soil and sand and water doplets having greater specific gravities are dropped into a conveyer box 19 through the lower hopper 17, an impeller 28, and a door 23. Since a great amount of air is applied to soil and sand until the soil and sand are deposited on the lower side of the hopper 17, the moisture ratio of soil and sand is lowered. Slaked lime is dropped from a tank 25 into the box 19 and mixed with soil and sand to change the quality of the soil and sand to one suitable for embedding.
