PURPOSE:To perform the azimuth recording without guard band by providing >=3 adjacent tracks of a magnetic tape, etc., recording and reproducing successively the data of tracks by >=3 magnetic heads having different azimyth angles and providing a device to compensate the tracking in a reproduction mode. CONSTITUTION:The levels are different for reproduced signals obtained from a guard bandless recording pattern (figure A) by magnetic heads 17-19 having different azimuth angles. Making use of this fact, the tracking control is performed. The levels of reproduced signals are reduced in the order of heads 18, 19 and 17 while the head 18 is reproducing a track 24. A comparator 29 sets previously the reference voltage corresponding individually to each level and compares the level of the reproduced signal of the head 18 with the reference signal through a line l7 in the case of Figure B. Then the comparator 29 gives a command to a head driving control circuit 31 to set the reproduced signal of the track 24 at the maximum level. Then the circuit 31 controls a head driving mechanism 32 so as to obtain the maximum output for the reproduced signal of the track 24 and then compensates a tracking error so that the head 18 is correctly put on the track 24. |
