PURPOSE:To obtain particles having uniform particle size at low cost in the manufacture of ultrafine metallic powder by blowing gas against an arc column, an anodic flame and a molten metallic material from the circumference to control the average particle size and the particle size distribution of the ultrafine metallic particles. CONSTITUTION:An arc column 10 is generated by impressing an electric current between a metallic material 11 on a copper hearth 4 and a cathodic electrode 3 in order to melt the metallic material 11. Then an anodic flame 12 of the ultrafine metallic powder is formed and sent upward in a vessel 1 by circulating gas. At this time, the circulating gas is blown continually against the metallic material 11, the arc column 10 and the anodic flame 12 from injection nozzles 13 through an introducing tube part 13A. The shape of the arc column 10 is self- contracted with different pinch effects and throttled upon the molten surface of the metallic material 11, and the ultrafine metallic powder having uniform particle size is formed. The ultrafine metallic powder is recovered by a filter 6 in a recovering part 5, and the circulating gas is circulated through a pump 18. |
