PURPOSE:To allow the internally generated gas to be dissipated outwardly thereby to prevent the battery from deforming or exploding, by providing a thin-walled portion in a part of the plastic sealing member and providing notched portions leaving a predetermined thickness of the sealing member intact at the joining parts of the thin-walled portion with the thick-walled portion. CONSTITUTION:The sealing member 8, which is pressed against the case 1, the sealing plate 5, and the current collecting member 7, is provided with a thin- walled portion 0.3 to 0.5mm. thick disposed in a part thereof. And, at the jointing parts of thin-walled portion 9 with the thick-walled portion, there are provided notched portions 10 which leaves the sealing member of the thickness of about 0.1 to 0.2mm. intact. As the material of the sealing member 8, thermoplastic resin such as polyethylene, or thermosetting resin such as phenolic resin, for example, is used. The notched portion 10 is processed by an ultrasonic welder with the tip of the horn made into a wedge shape to melt off a part of the thin-wall portion 9 or by a cutting tool to cut off the part. By the construction as described above, the notched portion is broken and dissipates the gas to the outside before any deformation or explosion of the battery occurs. |
