The present invention relates to an improvement to automatic-unloading barges used for transporting materials in bulk. According to the invention the barge includes a hull in which is arranged a hold equipped at its centre with a series of apertures 8 for emptying and, under these apertures, arranged longitudinally, a conveyor belt 9 which extends from rear to front of the said hold and rises to the upper level of the barge in the space between the hold and the bow; the hold of this barge has a U-shaped cross section and includes a sheet arranged in the shape of a partition, longitudinally movable under the action of control members. This sheet is drawn along the whole length of the hold by a control device of the capstan type 16 and brought back to its start point by another capstan or winch. In another arrangement, the sheet is self-propelled and encloses, in its structure, means constituted by at least a pair of jacks 21 for step-by-step movement, on rack gears 23 integral with the hold. <IMAGE>
