In an inclined-bed lathe, both a first slide (3) and a tailstock (11) are arranged on the upper bed. On the lower bed there is a second slide (12), which likewise carries a tool holder designed as a pivoted tool holder (13). By virtue of this configuration, the second slide can also be made wide enough to allow it to be guided sufficiently well. The tailstock furthermore does not have to have a neck which projects a long way towards the headstock (7). <IMAGE>
