PURPOSE:To restore the replacement of a disk even after power failure is happened instantaneously on the way of the replacement of the disk and to replace the disk highly reliably by providing the titled device with a disk utilization setting means setting up whether the disk in a cartridge case is to be used or not. CONSTITUTION:If prescribed information in a disk stored in a stocker 17 is to be retrieved at the time of initialization, data necessary for the retrieval of the disk is inputted from a switch S0 to a CPU53 through an input interface 52. The CPU53 accesses the data detected and found at the time of initialization from a memory 54 and discriminates whether a disk case exists in an address corresonding to the disk or not or whether the switch can use the disk or not. If the discriminated result is negative, the CPU53 informs the result by any method. When the disk case exists, the CPU53 discriminates whether a photodetecting element 27 detects the slit 25 of a slit plate 24 or not and sends an output so that pulses with a constant speed are generated from a pulse generating circuit 57. |
