PURPOSE:To enable a considerable increase in the number of terminals and an increase in the degree of freedom in electrode lead-out parts by providing lead- out terminals in the step part formed as at least three peripheries of one of opposed substrates project from the circumferential edge of the other substrate. CONSTITUTION:The three peripheries of one substrate 1a in a pair of square plate-shaped transparent glass substrates 1a, 1b which are spaced and placed to face each other are projected from the circumferential edge of the other substrate 1b to form a step part 2a. The transparent electrodes formed on the inside surfaces of both substrates 1a, 1b are designated as 3a, 3b. The sealing part formed by sealing the peripheries of both substrates 1a, 1b by, for example, glass or the like, is designated as 4. The lead-out parts connecting to the electrode 3a and extending through the part 4 to the part 2a are designated as 5, and the lead-out terminals formed to the end part of the parts 5 are designated as 6. The liquid crystal sealed between both substrates 1a and 1b is designated as 7. The number of the terminals is increased considerably by providing the lead-out terminals to the step part 2a in the above-mentioned way. The degree of freedom in the electrode lead-out parts is thus increased and the connection to a driving circuit is easily made possible. |
