The waffle baking device (10) has heating plates (11.1, 11.2) which are interconnected in an articulation axis (20) via housing parts. In the region opposite the articulation (20), there is provided a catch spring (25) with a catch hook (26) and a release rocker (32). Spacing elements in the form of wart-like projections and trough-like hollows as spherical domes (44) and spherical indentations (45) hold the baking surfaces, supported only at individual places, at a given distance from one another so that water vapour and dough can come out and uniform browning and baking-through of the waffles can take place without further fixing. <IMAGE>
