In the case of a domestic appliance, in particular a dish-washer for installation in a row of kitchen units, the appliance door is covered over its entire surface by a secondary door hinge-mounted on the appliance housing underneath the mounting of the appliance door. The appliance door is coupled to the secondary door by means of one or more control arms which impose a leading pivoting motion on the secondary door during opening of the appliance door and impose a trailing pivoting motion on the secondary door during closing of the appliance door. In order to avoid injuries to fingers when pivoting the secondary door back into the closed position, the secondary door is supported in the bearing on the appliance housing. If the secondary door meets an obstacle during closing, for example a finger placed in the gap between appliance door and secondary door, the imposed control between the doors is prevented, because the secondary door lifts up and consequently the gap between the two doors is not reduced any further as the appliance door closes.
