A two-four-one twisting spindle possesses a balloon-contracting ring which is attached to a supporting cylinder and which rotates about the latter. The inside diameter D of the balloon-contracting ring and the outside diameter d of the cylindrical extension of the supporting cylinder are in a ratio of more than 1.2 to one another. The radius of the supporting cylinder is likewise matched to the diameters of the cylindrical extension and of the balloon-contracting ring. The measures ensure that the balloon-contracting ring rotates together with the thread freely and without rattling.
