PURPOSE:To satisfy all of requirements for multicolor expression, half-tone expression, high resolution, low consumption of electric power, maintenance and the like, by a method wherein a plurality of transfer papers differring in color tone and saturation density are used, and transferring is conducted by using each of the transfer papers singly or sequentially. CONSTITUTION:In a heat-sensitive recording head 24, electric currents are selectively passed to a plurality of heating resistors in accordance with a signal, thereby transferring a heat-fusible ink layer 22 onto a paper 25 to be transferred. In the same printing step, it is possible to express 2<3>, namely 8 gradations for a single color, e.g., yellow. Therefore, when each picture element is constituted of a matrix of 2X2 dots, it is possible to express 29 gradations for each color. In this case, although transferring must be repeated 9 times at maximum for obtaining the maximum density of black with three colors, the number of color hues capable of being expressed amounts to (29)<3>, so that sufficient hue expression can be obtained. |
