PURPOSE:To reduce the transmission time by transmitting roughly a picture at the first short time and transmitting detailed information of the picture as the time is elapsed in the transmission of a still picture having gradation. CONSTITUTION:A contrast picture signal is converted into a digital signal X, converted into a binary signal Y1 and stored in a memory 6, then inputted to a contrast estimation circuit 2 and converted into an estimate value X1. A contrast signal X subject to delay and compensation and its estimate value X1 are subtracted and the estimate error (X-X1) is stored in a memory 7 with binary coding. The binary signal Y1 stored in the memory 6 is coded under compression and modulated and transmitted to a transmission line 150. Then, the binary signal stored in the memory 7 is coded under compression and transmitted. |
