A device for automatically closing and opening smoke stacks. The device uses the expansion and contraction of a fluid 10 due to heating and cooling, and transmits the displacement produced by the change in volume by means of a piston 11 connected to a rod 13 which, through the articulated link 16, actuates an oscillating flap 1 situated in the smoke stack 6. It is intended to ensure, by using the heat from fireplaces, that cold air is prevented from entering a room when the fire is put out. <IMAGE>
