The system for restoring three-dimensional colour images comprises two projectors 1a, 1b projecting onto the same screen 3 the left and right coloured images 4a, 4b of a stereoscopic pair through two encoding (i.e. not completely selective) filters 5a, 5b, which respectively tint the images 4a and 4b using two substantially complementary colours, e.g. blue and red-orange, without removing the chrominance information. The observer is equipped with decoding spectacles 7 comprising, in front of each eye respectively, a decoding filter 8a, 8b which is not completely selective, the wavelengths of which are close to the respective encoding wavelengths. The undesirable crossing of images, although present, does not spoil the correct perception of the section, and the colour is restored, the three-dimensional effect being quite striking.
