The lubrication system is intended for a vacuum pump having radial vanes (5) in an eccentric rotor (4). A rotary vane oil pump (13) is on one (8) of the two rotor shaft ends (8,9). Oil ducts (18,19,21) extend from the pump (13) to the oil grooves (20,22) of the shaft bearings. From there, grooves (23,24) serve the vacuum pump chamber and a duct (27) with outlet (28) serves the outlet valve (12) of the vacuum pump. The oil pump draws its oil at a level (16) above that of the oil in the outer enclosure (1), via a tube (15) with an inlet below that level (17). One of the bearing grooves connects to a pressure relief valve (26), permitting return flow to the oil supply (2).
