Gas-fired flow heater with a heat exchanger arranged in a combustion chamber and acted on by a burner, in which heater the combustion chamber receives the combustion air through an air supply duct and in which the exhaust gases are carried away through an exhaust-gas removal duct provided with a fan. A bypass flap is arranged between the fresh-air supply duct and the exhaust-gas removal duct, bypassing the heat exchanger and coupled, as regards position, to an air flap arranged in the air-supply duct to the combustion chamber. The positional movements of the exhaust-gas flap and the air flap take place in a contrary sense, both flaps being driven by the same servo motor and, in the inoperative state during the starting of the flow heater, the bypass flap is situated in its closed position and the air flap in its open position.
