A tube reactor for treating liquids with gas, for example for neutralising alkaline liquids, which reactor contains a plurality of substantially straight, preferably vertically arranged reactor tubes, which are connected to one another via lateral transfer pieces to give an arrangement in rows, can be substantially improved in its efficiency and its degree of utilisation of the treatment gas by fitting a mixing nozzle, carrying a flow of the liquid/gas mixture, in each case in the inlet region at the front end of at least those reactor tubes to the exit of which a transfer piece is connected. These mixing nozzles can be designed as a continuous, for example conical narrowing of the internal pipe cross-section and subsequent sudden widening to the full internal tube cross-section. The improved tube reactor is particularly suitable for the neutralisation of alkali-contaminated treatment water from cleaning machines, in particular bottle-cleaning machines. A special possible use results for the alkali-contaminated treatment water which has been taken from the warm-water treatment zone of a bottle-cleaning machine and which is to be recycled after neutralisation into the bottle-cleaning machine, in which case the neutralising gas can be a CO2/air mixture discharged from a bottle-filling machine.
