PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of dyes, agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, by reacting an aniline compound with phosphorus oxychloride and dimethylformamide, reacting the reaction product with a metal cyanide, and treating in an acidic medium. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula IV is prepared by (1) reacting the aniline compound of formula I [A and B are H, nitro, cyano, halogen, 1- 4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl, 1-4C alkylsulfonyl or group of formula II (C and D are H, nitro, halogen or 1-4C alkoxycarbonyl); X is I, Br or Cl] with phosphorus oxychloride and dimethylformamide, (2) reacting the resultant amidine derivative of formula III with a metal cyanide such as cuprous cyanide, zinc cyanide, etc. at 0-180 deg.C to convert the substituent group X to cyano group, and (3) treating the product at room temperature -100 deg.C in an acidic medium (e.g. hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc.) in a solvent such as methanol, ethanol, etc. |
