Heat exchanger

Connected between the compressor and condenser of a heat pump, e.g. of a room air conditioner, is a heat exchanger which consists of spirally extending ribs(fins) (41) which feed the heat of the hot gas leaving the compressor to a partition (4) which carries ribs (11). A water current conveyed by the pump (17, 18) flows from the periphery to the centre, while the hot gas flows from the centre to the periphery. The ratio of the area of the heat-exchanging surfaces (41) to the area of the ribs (11) is as the ratio of the heat transfer coefficient of the water to the heat transfer coefficient of the hot gas. The housing (19) on the water side can be removed, so that the heat-dissipating surface of the partition (4) becomes accessible for removing scale. The partition (4) consists of two plates soldered together which enclose between themselves ducts (7) through which the working medium can flow off if a leak is produced in the partition. <IMAGE>
