PURPOSE:To utilize an installation effectively and to save the energy consumed in a heating furnace by preheating a billet of ambient temperature and that of intermediate temperature to approximately the same temperature by utilizing a bloom soaking pit as a preheating furnace, and charging the preheated billet extracted from the soaking pit into a heating furnace together with the billet of intermediate temperature. CONSTITUTION:An on-line continuous cast billet 2 kept in a state of an intermediate temperature of about 600-700 deg.C, among the billets manufactured by a continuous casting installation 1 is charged into a heating furnace (continuous furnace) 3 as it is. On the other hand, a stored continuous cast billet 2' is once charged into a bloom soaking pit 4 to preheat it to the intermediate temperature of about 600-700 deg.C from the ambient temperature, thereafter it is charged into the furnace 3 in the same manner as the cast billet 2 is done. Next, the cast billets 2 and 2' are heated in a mixed state by the furnace 3 to the rolling- capable temperature of about 1,100-1,200 deg.C, thereafter the cast billets are charged into a rolling process. Thus an old installation is effectively utilized and further, the fuel consumption unit of the heating furnace is reduced. |
