The field deflection circuit includes a deflection winding (27) coupled to a voltage source. An energy storage element (26) coupled to the winding provides current in the winding and a source of line deflection rate energy incorporates a switch (33). A predetermined amount of the line deflection rate energy is applied to the energy storage element during a first portion of each line deflection interval and a predetermined amount of energy is removed from the storage element during a second portion of each interval by a circuit (21). A unidirectional current control element (40) completes a current path from the winding (27) to a source of reference potential (ground) via the switch during a portion of a field deflection interval in response to operation of the switch. Thus a switched vertical deflection circuit derives vertical deflection current from horizontal deflection energy.
