CONNECTING METHOD OF FEED NOZZLE AND TUNDISH IN HORIZONTAL CONTINUOUS CASTING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent the leakage accident of a molten metal during casting in a horizontal continuous casting device by interposing a ceramic sheet in the joint surfaces of a feed nozzle and a tundish nozzle. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic elastic sheet 18 of an alumina silica base or the like is attached along the outside circumferential edge of a feed nozzle 14 to be attached to a horizontal continuous casting mold from the top end face thereof and mortar 16 is built up on the outside surface thereof. A tundish 2 is brought near the casting mold side, and the fitting part at the tip of a tundish nozzle 22 is pressed and joined to the nozzle 14 side. The sheet 18 shrinks by about 40- 50% when compressed and fills tightly the gap between both nozzles 14 and 22. A part of the mortar 16 is intruded into the sheet 18 by the pressing force during joining and the curing of the joint layer is effected by the curing of the mortar. The connecting operation including centering, etc. is easily and quickly accomplished.
