<p>The cpds. are made by (a) reacting a 12-18C alkyl dimethylamine with a benzyl halide in aq. medium at 40-70 deg.C in stoichiometric proportions until quaternisation is complete; (b) adding to the soln., without isolating the quaternary ammonium salt, a soluble saccharine salt in aq. soln.; and (c) isolating the insol. saccharinate formed, by filtering or centrifuging, washing and drying. - Pref. the benzyl halide is the chloride, the soluble salt is sodium saccharinate, and the alkyl gp. is dodecyl, tetradecyl, hexadecyl or octadecyl.</p> |
