<p>The apparatus has a unitary member (10) with a web portion (14) extending diametrically within a fluid carrying conduit (12), with fin members (16, 18, 40, 42, 44, 46) extending from opposite surfaces thereof into proximate or abutting relation with the inner wall of the conduit. The fins are undulate in form to define fluid flow passageways providing a venturi effect with the fluid velocity fluctuating during traversal therethrough. Adjacent passageways fluctuate the velocity differently so that the composite effect at the exit end of all passageways is to promote turbulence in the fluid leaving the apparatus to prevent scale formation in the conduit. In a first embodiment (Figures 1-5) the configuration of the fins on opposite surfaces of the web portion are different to provide different rates of fluctuations of the velocity. In the other embodiments (Figure 6, and Figures 7-10 not shown) the fin configuration is generally identical on both sides of the web portion. <IMAGE></p> |
