Conditions of inappropriate hyperhydration in warm blooded animals can be treated with an essentially water only diuretic drug compound selected from the group <IMAGE> (I) wherein m, n, p, A, E, R, R1, R2, X, Y and Z are as defined in the specification, e.g., trans-3,4-dichloro-N-methyl-N-[7-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]d ec-8-yl]benzeneacetamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, <IMAGE> (II) wherein R, R1, R2, R3, P, Q, X and Y are as defined in the specification, e.g., 3,4-dichloro-N-[[8-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]-dec-8-yl]methy l]benzeneacetamide, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, or <IMAGE> (III) where R, R1, R2, X and Y are as defined in the specification, e.g., trans-(1)-2-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-methyl-N-[2-(1-pyrrolidinyl)cyclohe xyl]acetamide, or <IMAGE> (IV) wherein p, n, q, X, Y, R, R1, R2, R3, R4, E, R5, R6 are as defined in the specification, or <IMAGE> (V) wherein R, R1, R2, R3, R4, X, Y, p, n, q, E, are as defined in the specification, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
