PURPOSE:An epoxy resin composition useful for sealing elements, excellent in light transmission, moisture resistance, and moldability, containing an epoxy resin and a novolak resin as a curing agent therefor. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin is mixed with a cure accelerator, a lubricant, etc., and a novolak resin as a curing agent. If the cured product contains foreign matter, the light reception quantity or/and the light emission quantity are lowered, and the normal operation is prevented. Therefore, the mixing or milling is conducted in such a way that the resulting epoxy resin composition contains no foreign matter having a diameter of above 30mu. Examples of the epoxy resins are bisphenol A-derived epoxy resin, novolak type epoxy resin, alicyclic epoxy resin, and a mixture thereof. Examples of the novolak resins are phenol novolak resin and o-cresol novolak resin. |
