Two lateral supports (3) and a beam (4) which form a frame (1) with a window sill-like element (2) are formed from a profile with an essentially U-shaped cross-section. The said frame (1) is mounted on buildings with external insulation. The insulation is pushed between the two legs (5 and 6) of the profile which are of unequal lengths. Hinge parts (11) and arms (14) with securing elements (15) for possible window blinds are welded onto the lateral supports (3). Hooks (13) for attaching window boxes can be attached to the sill-like element (2). The border frame (1) serves as edge protection for the external insulation in the region of window openings and makes external insulation considerably easier to apply. <IMAGE>
