In the process, the abrasive-medium layer, comprising a nickel layer and abrasive particles, is uniformly applied. The particles are brought into contact with the operating surface of the tool (1) by means of a stirring mechanism (10) which operates at intervals. Subsequently, the abrasive-medium layer is nickel-coated in a separate bath. The result is a layer which is of uniform thickness and particle distribution and is distinguished by greater hardness, higher wear-resistance and a shorter manufacturing time. <IMAGE>
