An aluminium-base alloy which may have a coloured surface imparted to it by anodizing, without recourse to subsequent dyeing, has the following composition in percentages by weight: Cr 0.2 to 0.5; Mn 0 to 0.6; Mg 0 to 1.2; Si and Fe not greater than 0.35 total. Al and impurities the balance. The alloy may also contain 0.02 to 0.10% by weight of Ti. For greater strength, the alloy may be clad on to a base layer of a metal of higher strength, for example a higher strength the aluminium-base alloy. U.S.A. Specification 2,719,781 is referred to. |
