In a shut-off or two-way valve of the type which has a valve head 76, 78 mounted on a valve rod 86 which can be moved to and fro, the bushing 30 which guides the valve rod is provided with a cylindrical recess 48 which a cleaning and sterilizing medium is made to flow through to counteract contamination of the process liquid of the valve when the valve head is guided into a position in which the previously drawn-back piston rod part 86, 74 is reintroduced into the valve chamber 4, 6 which contains or guides the process liquid. The recess 48 is flow- connected to other recesses or ducts 52, 106 which are located at the outer side of sealing rings which form a seal for various other valve chamber wall parts 30, 76, 88, in which way the recess or the duct system can form part of a leakage control system. <IMAGE>
