PURPOSE:To stabilize a tape speed by using a horizontal and vertical synchronizing signal for a reference signal of a servo circuit for running an audio cassette tape recording a video signal. CONSTITUTION:The video signal from a camera 11 is digitized and given to an IC memory 13. Contents of the IC memory are compressed by a compressing and expanding circuit 14 and recorded on an audio cassette tape 17 by a recording and reproducing head 16 via a recording/reproducing circuit 15. A motor 18 of a capstan 19 is controlled by the servo circuit comprising a pulse generator 21, frequency/voltage converter 22, phase modulator 23, voltage controlled oscillator 24 and a phase comparator 25. The servo circuit 26 uses a horizontal synchronizing signal from a horizontal and vertical synchronizing signal generating circuit 27 as a reference pulse. Thus, the tape speed is stabilized and high density recording is attained.
