The ignition control method and the circuit make it possible to calculate, on each ignition cycle, an ignition instant ALL which is updated in real time from the operating parameters of the engine measured in the course of the preceding ignition cycle. The circuit comprises a calculating unit 17 and a peripheral input/output unit 1 both controlled by a microcode program contained in a CROM memory 18. The calculation of the speed of the engine is carried out with the aid of a toothed wheel 5a which interacts with a magnetic detector 5d and which is keyed onto the crankshaft of the engine to be controlled. <IMAGE>
