PURPOSE:To perform accurate identifying operation without causing a detecting mechanism to malfunction and get out of order nor being influenced by environmental conditions of humidity and temperature by providing the 1st, the 2nd, and the 3rd counter electrodes and further providing an arithmetic circuit which calculates the electrostatic capacities between the respective electrodes. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic capacity type identifying device for paper sheet, etc., is provided with the 1st counter electrodes 9 and the 2nd and the 3rd counter electrodes 10 and 11 which have nearly the same effective area and effective interelectrode distance that the 1st counter electrode has near the 1st counter electrodes; and nothing, i.e. air is interposed between the 2nd counter electrodes and a reference piece 12 which has the same thickness and dielectric constant that paper sheet or the like has in a reference state is fixed between the 3rd counter electrodes. The electrostatic capacities Cx, Ca, and Cb between the 1st, the 2nd, and the 3rd counter electrodes are detected at the same time and the arithmetic circuit calculates (Cx-Ca)/(Cb-Ca)=A and then outputs a signal voltage E corresponding to the A. |
