A manipulator is described having a foot (7) and having a lower arm (8) which is held on the foot (7) so as to be rotatable about a horizontal bearing axis (9). The arm (8) bears on its end facing away from the foot (7) an upper arm (11). The upper arm (11) is mounted on the arm (8) so as to be rotatable about a swivel axis (12). At its free end, the arm (11) bears, via connecting elements (12, 13, 14) which are configured as a manual joint, a processing device, for example a paint spray-gun. The swivel axis (12) is rotated with respect to the bearing axis (9). As a result, the manipulator (1) is capable of reaching with its processing device even those points which are difficult to access. The manipulator (1) can be advantageously used for painting the bodies (2) of cars. <IMAGE>
