PURPOSE:To manufacture metallic powder having a desired size and shape with good accuracy by working a metal, etc. to a plate shape, melting and scattering the plate-shaped material by using a pulse-oscillated laser under a specific condition and recovering the same. CONSTITUTION:A metal or nonmetal or alloy thereof having a prescribed component compsn. is worked to a plate material 1 having a suitable thickness. Such material 1 is fed at a prescribed speed by a roll feeder 3 and a laser beam 2 is irradiated thereto by using a pulse-oscillated laser. The beam 2 is irradiated in this stage under the condition wherein the beam irradiated in one pulse to the part (a) has the energy to evaporate and scatter the entire irradiated part (a) or above. Assist gas is blown at about 50l/min flow rate from a nozzle 5 and the parts (a), (b), (c)... are successively melted and forcibly blown downward so as to be charged into the liquid nitrogen 7 in a tank 6, whereby the material is quickly cooled.
