The invention relates to novel, largely oleochemical raw materials having numerous hydroxyl groups. The reaction products of epoxidised fatty alcohols containing polyfunctional alcohols and/or phenols and a process for obtaining these substances are described, which, depending on the starting molar ratio, yields alcohol mixtures containing largely primary or largely secondary hydroxyl groups respectively. The reaction products of the alcohol mixtures with cyclic ethers such as ethylene oxide or propylene oxide are additionally described.
