PURPOSE:To improve the horizontal resolution of a solid-state image pickup device by obtaining an output signal in a time series corresponding to a horizontal relative position of a photoelectric converting element so as to obtain easily the effect the same as the delay having an excellent characteristic without an external circuit. CONSTITUTION:Photoelectric converting elements 1-1-1-8, 10-1-10-8 are provided in the solid-state image pickup device, and they are arranged horizontally and vertically by four each. Further, a CCD11 of two-phase drive is used as a horizontal transfer means, and a charge detecting section 13 is connected to the CCD11. Further, in reading two rows of the elements 1-1-1-8 or 10-1-10-8, an output from the detecting section 13 is given to the 1-1, 1-2-1-7, 1-8 so as to obtain outputs of time series corresponding to the horizontal position of the elements 1-1-1-8 or 10-1-10-8. Further, the two CCDs 11 are used as required and the same effect as the delay of the excellent characteristic is obtained without any external circuit so as to improve the horizontal resolution of the device. |
