Sterile air is supplied to an area (1) in the operating theatre by a primary air current having a greater velocity than that of a surrounding secondary air curtain. The primary air is directed downwardly at 45 deg. from elongated slits (11) or nozzles in a member (10) whilst the secondary air issues horizontally and vertically respectively from wall (12) and ceiling (13) supply members. - The secondary air may issue uniformly from small holes in square panels surrounded by short or extended transparent plates or the side edges of the member supplying the air may be inclined outwards (14,15).
