PURPOSE:To prepare an alkylene carbonate easily, in high yield and purity, by thermally reacting a specific alkylene oxide with carbon dioxide in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound is prepared by reacting (A) an alkylene oxide having >=4 carbon atoms constituting the molecule, especially an alkylene oxide wherein at least one of the carbon atom constituting the 3-membered oxirane ring is substituted with >=2 substituent groups with (B) carbon dioxide at 70-200 deg.C, preferably 100-150 deg.C for 1-3hr in the presence of a catalyst comprising at least one compound selected from (i) the group of alkoxide compounds of Fe, Al, Zn, Ti, Sn or Sb bonded with at least one halogen atom and (ii) the group of pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline and their derivatives. |
