PURPOSE:To continuously obtain a solid thermoplastic rod shaped body free from cavities at a high speed, by continuously cutting a plate shaped article obtained by directly cooling an extrudate of molten thermoplastic resin continuously extruded from a die in a predetermined width longitudinally in parallel to the extruding direction. CONSTITUTION:A plate shaped body of molten resin extruded from the slit opening part 17 of a die 11 is grasped between cooling rolls 12 comprising each pair of opposed rolls to be cooled and solidified. As the slit opening part 17, one having an elongated cross-sectional shape, one provided with proper round shapes at the end parts 18 thereof or one wherein the opening thickness of the slit opening part is deformed into a wavy shape can be used. The cooled and solidified plate shaped body is cut into a plurality of rod shaped bodies in the extruding direction by disc saws 14. A plurality of the disc saws 14 are provided so as to provide proper intervals therebetween. In a cutting system, a band saw, a knife or a hot wire can be used other than the disc saw. A large number of rod shaped bodies cut by this method are subsequently finished into ones each having a proper cross-sectional shape. |
